Frances Jane Huftel, 93, of Altoona, WI passed away peacefully on Monday, September 11, 2023 at Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Eau Claire.
Frances otherwise known as "Boots" was born on December 14, 1929 to Archie and Sadie (Tierney) Wilson on the family farm near Osseo, WI. Her love of animals, gardening, cooking and canning stemmed from her childhood days.
She married her soulmate, best friend and partner in crime, Roger Thomas Huftel on June 25, 1949. Chippewa Falls became their nesting place, raising five children, while balancing dinner dates with friends, card parties, square dancing, Sunday feasts and church activities. Eventually, they moved to Altoona to fulfill their dream of owning an electronic repair shop, but people knew it as the friendly place to stop in and chat about the day's events.
Fran's interests were endless: fishing and rock collecting their way through the great northwest, she couldn't choose which state she loved the most, was it Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Washington? They were all grand sights to see.
She enjoyed reading, theater productions, school Christmas plays, church activities like making quilts and watching the Brewers. She also loved life and held a steadfast devotion and commitment to her Lord and Savior.
Frances is survived by her daughters Susan (David) Gilman and Terry (Lynn) Gullickson; son David (Cindy) Huftel; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Roger; sons Mark and John; grandchildren Ryan and Cheryl; great-grandson Alisdair; and son-in-law Jose.
Family would like to thank the Mayo emergency department and hospital staff for their devoted care. And an extra special thank you to Dr. Mobola Adentimehin for her kindness and compassion. Family would also like to thank all of the staff at Stokes, Prock & Mundt Funeral Chapel.
Our heartfelt thanks go out to Mom's grandson Jesse for the years he lovingly provided care, companionship and comfort as she stayed in her own home.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Altoona, with a Visitation at 9:30am at the church until the time of service. Burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
