Edward D. Tobias, age 79, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, November 18, 2024. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Edward A. and Alice Tobias on November 25, 1944. He was a proud veteran, 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserves who served from 1965-1968. After his time in the military Edward went on to attend Lawrence University in Appleton, WI, graduating in 1970. It was there he met his wife, Donna. They married in 1972, and moved to Eau Claire, WI. He later received a Master's in Education from UW-Eau Claire in 1975.
Edward was a proud middle school teacher in the Eau Claire School District for 42 years, both full-time and as a substitute. Most will remember him as a sixth-grade teacher at Sam Davey, DeLong or Northstar. Few may know he also taught at the Eau Claire Academy early in his career. In addition to teaching, Edward spent many years coaching Little League baseball, boys' swimming, and girls' softball. He was a positive influence for so many children over the years!
He leaves behind his loving wife of 52 years, Donna; daughters Dana (Kevin) Diddell and Andrea (Jon) Neils; brother, Gregory (Karen Marie) Tobias; sister, Justine Dobson; sister, Karen Judith (Daniel) Crow; grandchildren: Rylan, Brayden, Milan and Mia. Edward is preceded in death by his father, Edward A. Tobias; mother, Alice Fishkin; step-father, Abraham Fishkin; and sister, Alice Victoria Tobias.
In his private time, he enjoyed reading, fishing, hunting, cooking, and exploring many new things. Over the years, Edward and Donna took many trips to Canada to fish, and Donna will hold those vacations dear to her heart. Edward wished to thank the folks at Emerald Ridge Game Farm, and Gilbert Gun Exchange for many fine and lasting memories. Also, he wished to thank Mayo Clinic Health Care for a decade of needed service. Lastly, "to recognize just one friend would be an insult to the rest. You know who you are, and you are remembered for enriching a life in so many ways."
The family would like to thank the Mayo Clinic Hospice Care team for their guidance during Edward's final days. Your compassion and care is appreciated. To honor his wishes, a service will not be held. In lieu of gifts or flowers, the family requests you celebrate his life by making a donation to an organization of your choosing.
-To the many students and athletes who were encountered "Remember to treat other peoples' children as well as, or better than your own." - Edward D. Tobias
