DuWayne (Duke) J. Poppy, age 85, of Marshfield died at 10:25, Sunday, 06, 06, 21, at Stoney River.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, 06-10-21, at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church with Rev. Douglas Robertson officiating. Grandsons will be pallbearers. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church.
DuWayne was born August 28, 1935 in Marshfield to John R. and Mabel M. Poppy. He attended
Auburndale High School his Freshman and Sophomore years. He was recruited by Father Flad to play football, basketball, and baseball at Madonna High School in Mauston, WI his Junior and Senior years. After graduation he entered the U.S. Army. After medical discharge he attended Vocation Barber School in Eau Claire, WI where he received his Barbering License. He married the former Patricia A. Kieffer on December 29, 1956 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Auburndale, WI. He barbered for 22 years, 20 of those being self-employed. He then worked in sales at Mid-State Truck Service Inc. for 3 years, was manager of Loyal Cheese Co. for 7 years, was a realtor at Shong Realty for 2 years, and worked again in sales for Gross Motors for 4 years, where he retired.
In years past he enjoyed playing softball, golfing, and bowling. He supported his children and grandchildren's sporting events, traveling many miles over the years to attend and cheer them on. He continued playing cards with family and his buddies at the Eagles Club several times a week. He also could be found on most mornings shooting the breeze with his "coffee clutch" friends. He was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Elks club, and Eagles Club.
Survivors include his wife, Pat, their six children Cheryl(Ed)Kuhn of Neillsville, Allen(Lisa)Poppy, of Windsor, Co. Cindy(Joe)Stroik of Wittenberg, Jim(Monica)Poppy of Lindsey, Paul(Yvonne)Poppy of Stratford, Sara(Scott)Femal of Appleton. He is further survived by 13 grandchildren and 13
great-grandchildren, one sister Sharon(Ivan)Fuerlinger, one brother John(Jeanne)Poppy, sister-in-laws Sue Poppy and Marylou(Jack)Uttermark, brother-in-laws David Kieffer, Mike Kieffer, and Bob Lingford. Many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Father and Mother-in-law, George and Marie Kieffer, two sisters Delores Klein and Joan Lingford, one brother David Poppy, two brother-in-law’s Don Klein and Richard Kieffer, and two sister-in-law’s Mary Ann Kieffer and Clarice Kieffer.
