Dorothy Pfielsticker
November 22, 1927 — December 19, 2023
Dorothy I. (Ver Hagen) Pfielsticker was born at home on Marshall St. in Eau Claire, Wisconsin in the “Bloody Ninth” ward on November 22, 1927, the eighth of eleven children. She died December 19, 2023 under the care of St. Croix Hospice and the wonderful staff at Heritage Assisted Living. She was the daughter of Rosalia (Leibreich) and Henry Ver Hagen.
Dorothy had a less than idyllic childhood growing up in the depths of the Great Depression and her parents divorcing when she was seven years old. But she had stories to tell of good friends she kept for a lifetime and of roller skating in the summer and ice skating in the winter.
She graduated from Eau Claire Senior High in 1945 and worked at the telephone company until the birth of her first child.
Dorothy met George Pfielsticker at a dance at Fourniers Ballroom on First Ave. They married in 1948 and soon lived in the “little pink house” on North Shore Drive. A son they named Tom came along in 1950. Just weeks before their daughter Rosanne was born in early February of 1955 they bought their forever home on Anderson Drive on the north side of Eau Claire. Dorothy was active in her children’s lives including Cub Scout den leader, Camp Fire Girls leader and volunteering at their grade school. She always had a home cooked supper ready for them, often made with vegetables George grew and Dorothy canned.
As her children grew, Dorothy and George became active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 305, where she helped him achieve the position of State Commander. After his death, she stayed active in the VFW Auxiliary, going to church, doing crossword puzzles and reading.
Covid changed her life as it did so many others, she missed attending mass, meeting up with friends and getting her hair done at Orvs. Her health deteriorated after a series of falls, and she had to leave the home she had lived in for almost 70 years. She moved into Heritage Assisted Living, where she was cared for by caring staff and made new friends.
Dorothy is survived by son Tom (Donna) of Buffalo, WY and daughter Roseanne (Mark) Chaput of Eau Claire; grandchildren Amanda (Ryan) Peters of Lewes, DE, TJ (Stacey) Pfielsticker of Casper, WY, Alex Chaput and Zach Chaput of Eau Claire. And great-grandchildren Zoe Peters, Jace, and Abbey Pfielsticker, several nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by four sisters: Joyce, Eleanor, Anna and Rosemary, and five brothers: Jack, Hank, Leo, Ray and Jerry. Sadly her sister Irene, just one year older than her, passed just three days after Dorothy.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at Heritage and to St. Croix Hospice for their care and compassion. No public services will be held.
