Donald E. Mayer took his journey to be with his heavenly Father on May 15, 2017 with his son Charles and daughter in law Arlene by his side. Donald was born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin to Phillip and Maude (Baker) Mayer on May 3, 1926. He attended Lincoln Elementary school and graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School in 1944.
He married Dorothy Drung on March 27, 1948 and has been a member of Lake Street United Methodist Church since 1950. He worked at Peters Meats for 24 years and later at Kerms on Water Street, Kerms Pick & Save on Birch Street and retired from Cub Foods in 1988.
He was a member of the Eau Claire Barber Shoppers and was named Barber Shopper of the Year in 1964. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and Camping at Six Lakes Resort in Chetek where he made many friends over 40 years.
Surviving are his sons Bill (Debra) of Bloomer, John (Joyce) of Whitelaw and Charles (Arlene) of Toledo, Ohio. Six Grandchildren Timothy (Katrina), Michelle, Riley, Kyle (Laura), Amanda (Matthew) Hall, Zack. Step Grandchildren Michelle Berge, Christopher Berge, Sara Fry (Logan), Charles Hanson (Carrie) and Amy DeAnda (Pete). Great Grandchildren Kalika, Kaleb L., Kenisha, Kiara, Olivia, Amelia, Owen, Kaleb J, Hattie, Harris and Blake. Also Step Great Grandchildren Wyatt, Laci, Bronson, Zach, Aubrey and River. Daughter in law Linda Mayer, Niece Paula Fjelstad, Great Nephew Jeremy Fjelstad, Sister in law Eleanor Mayer, Previous Daughters in law Mary Mayer and Kim Schneider and special friend Julie Holzinger.
Welcoming him into heaven are his loving wife Dorothy, 2 sons Thomas and Robert, Parents Phil and Maude Mayer, in laws Otto and Laura Drung, Granddaughter Melissa, brother Harold Mayer and nephew James Mayer.
Special thank you to the staff at Grace Edgewood in Altoona and the staff of St. Joseph’s Hospice for the wonderful care preparing Donald for his journey to heaven.
Private graveside services were held on May 16, 2017 at his final resting place at Lake View Cemetery.
