Donald D. Kortness, 87, of Eau Claire, passed away Thursday, January 25, 2018 at Dove Healthcare West.
Don was born in Eau Claire, the son of Palmer and Mathilda (Mai) Kortness on May 3, 1930. He grew up here attending school and graduated in 1948. He enlisted and served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict, being discharged in 1954. He married Alberta Breitzman on August 20, 1960 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Eau Claire.
Don worked for Frito Lay as a Route Salesman for over 25 years. He was very active at his church. He is probably best known for his terrific smile. Don was always happy to see everybody. He was perfect for his usher role at St. John’s. Don had a band called Don's Waltz Kings, and he was the only accordion player.
He is survived by his wife Alberta, his three sisters-in-law, Caroline Kortness, Rita (Joe) Cigan, and Ann (Ken) Dudash, and other near relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Vern.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Eau Claire. Family and friends may call Monday, January 29, 2018 at Stokes Prock & Mundt Funeral Chapel in Altoona from 4:00-7:00pm, and Tuesday one hour before services at the church. Private interment will take place in Rest Haven Cemetery, Town of Washington.
