Dennis Olson (April 11, 1949 – July 12, 2024)
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Dennis Alan Olson “Denny”, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, who left us on July 12, 2024, at the age of 75. Born on April 11, 1949, in Mondovi, WI the eldest son of Lester and Lavina Olson, Denny brought joy and warmth to all who knew him.
Denny is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Vicki. The two were married on October 11, 1969, at St. James Catholic Church in Eau Claire, WI, marking the beginning of a beautiful journey together. Denny is also survived by his beloved daughters, Jodene (Brian) Verbracken and Tara (Kevin) Sorenson, who brought him immense pride and happiness. His legacy lives on through his grandchildren, Kerry Coombs, Adam (Megan) Olson, Keely (Brent Baker) Verbracken, Chase Verbracken, Brenna and Katherine Sorenson, and great-grandchildren Lodun, Kyla, Hayes, Grey, Lennon, and a soon-to-be new addition to the family. He is also survived by many uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
As the eldest of ten siblings, Denny held a special place in the hearts of his brothers and sisters: Mark (Cindy), Margene (Tom) Kewan, Tim (Terry), Bonnie (Dwight) Veitch, Tom (Barb), Jon (Cathy), Maury, Tony (Cheryl), and Michelle (Tim) Paulin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Lavina Olson, his in-laws, Leonard and Betty Johnson, and his nephew Scott Olson.
Denny’s life was marked by his incredible ability to fix things and his passion for projects. In 1979, he and Vicki built their dream home on Lake Altoona, a place where they shared countless memories. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from UW-Eau Claire, which led him to a remarkable 40-year career at Mayo Clinic, where he retired as a Senior Healthcare Executive.
Denny's devotion to family radiated through his tender care for his wife and children, as well as his steadfast support for his parents, Lester and Lavina Olson, and his in-laws, Len and Betty Johnson, in their later years. A passionate sports enthusiast, Denny exuberantly cheered for teams like the Packers, Badgers, Brewers, and Ole Miss Rebels, finding great delight in their victories and shared moments of excitement. An ardent animal lover, he treasured his dogs and cats, including his beloved Yorkshire Terrier, Penny, whom he held especially dear. Renowned for his boundless generosity, Denny always stood ready to lend a helping hand, particularly to his cherished family and loved ones. As a master gardener, gardening was one of Denny's greatest joys, offering him profound satisfaction in nurturing his surroundings with meticulous care.
Denny’s memory will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing him. His unwavering love, kindness, and generosity will continue to inspire all who were touched by his remarkable life. May he rest in peace.
Per the family’s wishes, there will be no formal services. We kindly request donations to Helping Hands for Our Children in the Chippewa Valley, one of his favorite charities, in lieu of flowers.
