David D. Thoms of Eau Claire, WI passed away peacefully in his sleep at Brotoloc North-Roseview on October 18, 2018.
David was born on September 6, 1959 in Eau Claire, WI to Donald and Esther (Wolf) Thoms. He graduated from Regis High School, class of 1978. He loved to share his fond stories of being on the football team during his years there.
As many of us that loved David already know, he lived with a disability all of his adult life and most recently in 2015 suffered a debilitating stroke that left him partially paralyzed. Through all of this, David remained an inspiration to many with his inspiring and cheerful attitude. His illness never seemed to get him down for long and he was often the one to be uplifting to the many people that crossed his path during this difficult time. David always remembered everyone’s name and was quick to instill his humor into any situation. He was a special, gentle soul and will be sorely missed.
David enjoyed his job working at Equity Livestock for many years. He was a life-long member of the Immaculate Conception Church. He lived independently at 1616 Sherwin Avenue until his stroke in 2015. His hobbies included deer hunting, watching the Packers play, and riding his motorcycle. He enjoyed his time spent with family and friends and having coffee.
David is survived by his brothers and sister, Patricia (Stephen) Haas of Greenfield, WI, Douglas of Strum, WI, Susan (Alan) Gruba of Fall Creek, WI, Debra (John) Hoffmeister of Eau Claire, WI, Judith (Steven) Fletschock of Eau Claire, WI, and Randy (Tanys) of Eau Claire, WI; along with aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, many friends, and his pets, Snowball and Henry.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Esther; brother, Michael; nephews, Alex and Nathan; his grandparents; and his dog, Jack.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, October 24th, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Immaculate Conception Church. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery. Family and friends may visit on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at Stokes, Prock and Mundt Funeral Chapel, Altoona from 4:00-7:00 P.M., or at Immaculate Conception Church on October 24th, 2018 from 10:00 A.M until the time of service.
