Charles G. Howe DVM, age 80 of Ridgeland, passed away on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 Pioneer Health & Rehab in Prairie Farm. He was born on January 16, 1942 in DeKalb, Illinois to Frank and Leafie “Eleanor” Howe.
Charles graduated from Belvidere High School in 1960 and Iowa State University College of Veterinarian Medicine in 1967. He married Susan Rydeen on May 29, 1973.
He was an active member in his community. Charles was a member of the Ridgeland Lutheran Church and served on the church council. He also served as Chairman of Wilson Township, Farmer’s State Bank Board, Barron School Board and was a member of the WVMA (Wisconsin Veterinarian Medicine Association).
Charles practiced veterinary medicine in the greater Ridgeland area for 50 years. He also enjoyed farming throughout those years.
His hobbies included reading about history, watching college football, tailgating at Iowa State Football games, traveling, watching his grandchildren play sports and enjoying a bowl of ice cream.
In more recent years, Charles enjoyed drives around the countryside, visiting the Red Cedar River, trips to the field to see how his crops were growing and sitting on the front porch, enjoying his grandchildren and pets, including his dog, Rocky.
Charles is survived by his children: Tim Howe and his son Owen, Sara (Brian) Gracek and their sons Ray and Josh, Lynnae Howe (Joe Starkey) and Greta (Chuck) Kahl and their children Lauren, Taylor and Chloe; brothers-in-law: Gene Ashley, Gary Rydeen and Brian Rydeen; sisters-in-law: Judy Edstrom and Sandy Holcomb; many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his parents, wife, and sisters Joyce Ashley and Ann Martin.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2022 at the Ridgeland Community Center, 200 Diamond St., Ridgeland with Deacon Scott Burns officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
