Beatrice May Root, age 85 of Elk Mound, passed away at home on Tuesday, December 17, 2024. She was born on December 6, 1939 in Rusk County to the late Theodore Jerome Sr. and Enga Hamond.
Beatrice enjoyed sewing, gardening, coloring, puzzles, knitting, crocheting, painting, square dancing, nature and waterfalls. She was happiest when she was with family or sewing.
She worked at as a nurse's aide for Colfax Nursing Home for over 45 years and was known as the bird lady. Beatrice loved her fur and feather friends.
Beatrice married Byron Root on June 25, 1959. Byron passed away on July 6, 2022.
She had a caring heart with great understanding. She will be greatly missed by her family.
Beatrice is survived by her children: Harold (Jayne), Jerry, Patsy (Michael) King, Karen Root, Donna (Dan) Tody, Joyce (Harold) Jackson Jr., Vicki (Heath) Haskell and Cory; 14 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sisters Mary Krahulec and Alice Larson; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death are her husband, parents, daughter Nancy, and siblings Edith, Doris, Myrtle, Theodore Jr., Robert and George.
A celebration of life will be held at 12:00 p.m. (NOON) on Friday, January 10, 2025 at Stokes, Prock & Mundt Funeral Chapel, 535 S. Hillcrest Parkway, Altoona. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial will take place at a later date at St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery, Washington Township, Rusk County.
