September 14, 1936 – September 18, 2024
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Barbara Ann Grill-Swanson on September 18, 2024, at the age of 88. Born in Rice Lake, Wisconsin, on September 14, 1936, Barbara was the cherished daughter of Harry and Grace Kummet.
Barbara grew up in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, where she graduated from Regis High School. As a young woman, she worked as a waitress in local restaurants, bringing joy to those she served with her warm smile and friendly demeanor. She later embarked on a fulfilling career with Wisconsin Bell/AT&T in Eau Claire. Through dedication and hard work, she rose to become a group manager for operators, retiring as a respected AT&T employee.
Family was the cornerstone of Barbara's life. She was first married to the late Gene A. Grill, with whom she had three children: Dale, Larry, and Chris. The loss of her eldest son, Dale, at the age of fourteen, was the most profound sorrow she endured. After Gene's passing, Barbara found love again with Alan Swanson, who also preceded her in death.
Barbara is survived by her loving children, Larry and Chris; her dear sister, June; and a multitude of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will continue her legacy. She was a beloved sister to her late siblings: Marvin, Richard (Dick), Patricia, and Donald.
Known for her culinary talents, Barbara loved spending holidays and free time cooking with and for her family. She relished engaging in heartfelt conversations on any topic, cherishing the moments of connection and laughter. Her family was the most important part of her life, and she dedicated herself to nurturing those relationships.
A celebration of Barbara's life will be planned, where family and friends can gather to honor her memory and share stories of the joy she brought into their lives.
Barbara's warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her spirit lives on in the hearts of those she touched.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Condolences may be sent to Christine, 940 Broadview Blvd., Eau Claire, 54703.
