Spc Anthony John Golner, 42 years old of Chippewa Falls, WI was recruited to serve suddenly in our Lord’s kingdom, with the highest honors of all on March 19th, 2024.
Tony was born January 28th, 1982. He attended Mt. Lebanon Lutheran Church and School, baptized into our christian faith on February 28th, 1982, and confirmed May 1st, 1996. In 1999 Tony joined the 57th Headquarters 1st Brigade of the National Guard in Milwaukee, WI. He also served as a NSFD fire cadet from 1999-2000 where he earned his Firefighter 1 certification and EMT license. He graduated from Brown Deer High School with high honors in 2000. He then continued his education to receive a Bachelor's of Science in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 2004, all while serving the 57th HQ Brigade as FA Surveyor.
After his graduation at UWEC, he was called upon to serve his country and was transferred and deployed with C-Co 1-121 FA SECFOR, Sussex, WI, to serve in active duty combat for Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was honorably discharged with many decorations and awards. He fought alongside many selfless and determined individuals that became a family he loved as much as his family back home. His military family got him through the darkest times of war, loving and serving beside him. The only way we, back home, could show our gratitude was by making them members of our own family. Our deepest gratitude to his brothers and sisters in arms from the 57th Headquarters Brigade and the C Company 1-121 4th Platoon especially: Spc. Stephen W. Castner, Shauna Keel, Julie Tyriver, Paul Rasmussen, Deanna Alexander, Kyle Stankevitz, Lucian Lemak, Michael O'donnell, Matt Neitzel, Ryan Lawrence, Jason Grundel, Dyson Nunn, Dan Sterrenburg, Pete Bakke, Jeffery Allen, and Jeff Stockinger and the rest of his 4th Platoon.
Tony was the firstborn of 3 most beloved sons to Michael (Mickey) and Patricia Golner. He was a treasured brother, mentor and compass, for his younger brothers Benjamin (Danielle) and Joseph (Brittany), and his many nieces and nephews. Tony is also survived by his loving partner Amy Duhr, of 14 years, and their cherished children Kaden (22), Gavin (18), and Stella (16). This closely knit family circle meant the world to him.
Tony took on the role of proud father, uncle and godfather with a vigor, love, and understanding that made any child fall in love with him. He dedicated individual one-on-one time with every child in his life, to be absolutely sure they all had his pure undivided attention and all encompassing love. Through Ben and Danielle's children: Olivia (19), Logan (13), Lillian (5), and William (4), and Joseph and Brittany’s children: Gweneviere (5), and Callahan (3), as well as their children Kaden, Gavin and Stella, whom he loved as his own. Tony’s love, thoughtfulness, and amazing character will live on into this next generation.
Tony’s extended family will also greatly miss him. Aunt Jean Golner (Uncle Pat Reilly), Uncle Steve (Aunt Julie) Golner, Uncle Dan (Aunt Maria) Golner, Uncle Ben (Aunt Judy) Repinski, Aunt Beth VanHoak, Aunt Mary Kay (Stephan) Eisen, and Uncle Steve Lambert and his cousins, Jonathan (Pam) Williams, Jason (Sarah) Williams, Katie Repinski (John Jacobs), Samantha VanHoak, Blair (Markus) Woerfel, and Ava Golner. Among those listed above there are many other treasured relatives, platoon, and squad members and family he made along the way.
Tony is preceded in death by many other loved ones. Grandpa Herman Golner, Grandma Harriett Golner, Grandma Helen Repinski, Grandpa Thomas Repinski, Auntie Caryn Williams, Uncle John (Willie) Williams, Spc. Stephen Castner and Stephan Schulz.
Through his life, Tony embarked on a variety of adventures that helped him to grow and define himself. Along the way he has made a host of friends and leaves behind a secondary family of the most wonderful, inviting, energetic, and supportive people. Thank you dearest Corey, Jamie, Andy, Scott, Greg, and Joe for loving Tony.
Tony worked diligently as a Software Engineer for 18 years. Tony began his career in 2005 at Logicare in Eau Claire, WI, which evolved into the Wellness Network and to Web MD, serving as Software Development Manager. As in his personal life, Tony made an embedded family of all those that worked around him. Whether they were sitting next to him or only a face on a screen, he treated everyone with respect and kindness.
One of Tony’s biggest passions was music. Tony began his music hobby when he started his first group called Spare Change, in grade school, with his brother Ben and cousins Jason and Jonathon. His love for music continued to grow and he became a fan and roadie for Yam Cannon. From there he started his own band, Hallie Death March. The practice sessions that followed became a cherished part of his week. The members of HDM along with Amy created a new band, Little Weird Sandbox, and together they added another highlight to the list of Tony’s many accomplishments. Their album was finished and released in January of this year.
Tony was many different things to many different people. He was whoever he needed to be to best support, love, and cherish all those fortunate enough to have had him in their lives. He was a positive force that provided a foundation and true north for those in his life.

If there be any kindness I can show or good that I can do
Let me do it now
For I shall not pass through this way again.”
You will be more than missed.
